Notes

'Surprise' peony (Paeonia 'Surprise') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. The fragrant double blooms are deep yellow shaded with salmon-pink and purple, and they draw butterflies from spring into early summer. Victor Lemoine & Sons bred it. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with May Night salvia, Astilbe, and Lily.
