Notes

'The Gem' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'The Gem') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its dark crimson, ball-like double blooms open in mid to late spring on tall plants with good stems and foliage. Young plants need age and good cultivation to give satisfying flowers. Sarah A. Pleas bred it.

Pairs well with Purrsian Blue nepeta, Bells of Ireland, and Ostrich fern.
