Notes

'Trumpeter' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Trumpeter') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Henry E. Sass bred it, and the double red flowers open in late spring. The large blooms are cupped and rather globular, with narrow inner petals. The light green leaves reach to the ground, and the medium stems bend a little but stay strong.

Pairs well with Gooseneck loosestrife, Prairie dropseed, Black Hero tulip, and Maiden pink.
