Notes
'Velma Atkinson' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Velma Atkinson') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The fragrant, deep pink flowers have a Japanese form. Large guard petals surround a full center of yellow staminodes touched with pink. Strong, stiff stems carry good green foliage.
Pairs well with Big Daddy hosta, Prairie dropseed, Christmas fern, and Incrediball hydrangea.
