Notes

'Velvet Cloak' smoketree (Cotinus coggygria 'Velvet Cloak') is a shrub for borders, specimen planting, and accent use. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It grows fast and reaches about 10 to 15 feet tall. Butterflies visit it, and it tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Blue fescue, Casa Blanca lily, and The President clematis.
