Notes

'Vigoroso' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Vigoroso') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Fragrant violet-red flowers with black flares open in mid spring. Each stem carries one single bloom that is 7 to 8 inches across. Irmtraud Rieck bred it.

Pairs well with Fragrant Bouquet hosta, Hinoki cypress, Grape hyacinth, and Prairie dropseed.
