Notes

Virginia pine (Pinus virginiana) is a tree for specimen planting, low maintenance landscapes, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows slowly into a scrubby, flat-topped evergreen, and the seeds are an important wildlife food. It sits low on the menu for deer. The cones feel prickly to the touch.

Pairs well with Red maple, Sweet gum, and Winterberry.
