Notes

'Wate' Virginia pine (Pinus virginiana 'Wate') is a tree for specimen use, rock gardens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. This evergreen has an open habit and a slow growth rate, and birds visit it.

Pairs well with Blue grama, Poppy mallow, and Royal Star star magnolia.
