Notes

'Vivid' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Vivid') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. A Chinese breeder developed it, and John Standish introduced it in 1855. The woody stems stay through winter, so skip the hard cutback you give other peonies.

Pairs well with Damask rose, Black Parrot tulip, Cinnamon fern, and Blue Arrow Rocky mountain juniper.
