Notes

'Wayside' apple (Malus domestica 'Wayside') is a tree for the food garden, grown for fresh eating. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Miss Cunningham bred it in 1930. It blooms in early to late spring and attracts bees, but it is not self-fertile, so plant a second apple nearby for pollination.

Pairs well with Mock orange, Indian grass, and Praying Hands hosta.
