Notes

Whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulis) is a low maintenance tree. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. The trunk is short and twisted, and the crown is irregular and spreading. Clark's nutcracker tears open the cones to eat the seeds. The cones do not open until they decay.

Pairs well with Red spruce, Twinflower, and Red fescue.
