Notes

'Alkmene' apple (Malus domestica 'Alkmene') is a tree for the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is grown for fresh eating, with a strong, tart flavor and juicy, dense, cream-colored flesh. The fruit ripens in early September, a bit earlier than Cox. Kaiser Wilhelm Institute bred it in 1930.

Pairs well with Flowering quince, Garlic chives, and Hyssop.
