Notes

'Avant-Garde' clematis (Clematis 'Avant-Garde') is a vine for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. Red flowers with pink stamens open in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Mogens Nyegaard Olesen bred this sport of 'Kermesina' in 2004.

Pairs well with Viola clematis, Black Beauty lily, and Damask rose.
