Notes
'Beef Eater' lupine (Lupinus 'Beef Eater') is a perennial that grows 24 to 48 inches tall and 12 to 24 inches wide. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun. Red flowers open from pinkish red buds on straight, strong spires in early to late summer, and bees visit them. Lupines go semi-dormant after blooming, so plant them behind something one foot tall. Cut the plant back six inches after flowering to encourage new growth and reblooming.
Pairs well with Picture peony, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and Pacific Beauty calendula.
