Notes

'Birgit' Japanese witch hazel (Hamamelis intermedia 'Birgit') is a shrub for hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. It bears fragrant purplish-red blooms in winter and early spring. The leaves turn a new color in fall. It can grow 8 to 12 feet tall and 12 to 15 feet wide, so give it plenty of room.

Pairs well with Autumn fern, Little brown jug, and Bridal wreath spiraea.
