Notes

'Black Cherry Wild' carnation (Dianthus 'Black Cherry Wild') is a perennial for borders, rock gardens, containers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows 6 to 9 inches tall and wide and bears fragrant, double, velvet red blooms in spring and again in summer. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Butterflies and bees visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Blue fescue, Creeping juniper, and Karl Rosenfield peony.
