Notes

'Black Pearl' Texas redbud (Cercis canadensis 'Black Pearl') is a multi-stemmed tree for specimen planting, borders, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. Pea-like lavender-pink flowers cover the bare branches for several weeks in spring. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. The foliage turns chartreuse as fall approaches, and the seed pods feed songbirds.

Pairs well with Chocolate Ruffles coral bells, Karl Foerster feather reed grass, and European white birch.
