Notes
'Black Widow' rhododendron (Rhododendron 'Black Widow') is a shrub for borders, woodland gardens, and spring color. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and moist soil. Its funnel-shaped, wavy-edged, velvety burgundy flowers open in early to late spring. Shade in the afternoon gives the blooms richer, deeper color. Glossy green leaves and white-tipped anthers accent the flowers.
Pairs well with Aureola Japanese forest grass, Siberian iris, and Snake's head.
