Notes
'Blaumeise' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blaumeise') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, shade gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It blooms from early to late summer, with blue flowers in acid soils and pink flowers in alkaline soils. Deer rarely make it their first choice. It grows fast and tolerates salt.
Pairs well with Curly Fries hosta, Aureola Japanese forest grass, and Autumn fern.
