Notes
'Bleeding Hearts' ox eye (Heliopsis helianthoides 'Bleeding Hearts') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. It forms a clump 24 to 48 inches tall and 12 to 24 inches wide. Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds visit the blooms, and the plant is drought tolerant.
Pairs well with White Swan coneflower, Goldsturm black-eyed Susan, Nodding onion, and Sedge.
