Notes
'Summer Sun' ox eye (Heliopsis helianthoides 'Summer Sun') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, pollinator gardens, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. It forms a clump and blooms from early to late summer. Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds visit the flowers.
Pairs well with Goldsturm black-eyed Susan, Pale purple coneflower, and Blonde Ambition blue grama.
