Notes

California huckleberry (Vaccinium ovatum) is a fruit shrub for food gardens, hedges, borders, and woodland plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Pink, bell-shaped flowers are followed by dark berries that birds enjoy, and new spring growth is coppery red. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with Western azalea, Bush anemone, and Palace Purple alum root.
