Notes
'Scarlet Ovation' California huckleberry (Vaccinium ovatum 'Scarlet Ovation') is a shrub for food gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry soil. New leaves emerge bronze-red and fade to dark green in summer. Pink, urn-shaped flowers open in spring and give way to dark blue berries in late summer. Deer tend to browse other plants first.
Pairs well with Lilyturf, Autumn moor grass, and Elfin mother of thyme.
