Notes
'Capt’n Kate' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Capt’n Kate') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Fragrant single flowers open pale pink and fade to white, with deep purple flares at the base of each petal. The blooms open flat and can reach 8 inches across. The woody stems are strong, so wind does not easily damage them.
Pairs well with Annabelle hydrangea, Prairie dropseed, Greig's tulip, and Curly Fries hosta.
