Notes

'Chief Justice' peony (Paeonia 'Chief Justice') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its fragrant, rich red, semi-double blooms sit on good stiff stems and attract butterflies and bees. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Edward Auten, Jr bred it.

Pairs well with Fire Island hosta, Arrowwood viburnum, Carlton daffodil, and Polish Spirit clematis.
