Notes

'Christmas Velvet' peony (Paeonia 'Christmas Velvet') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Roger F. Anderson bred it. The fragrant red double blooms have strong stems, so they stay up off the ground.

Pairs well with Earth Angel hosta, Annabelle hydrangea, Pyrethrum, and Blonde Ambition blue grama.
