Notes

'Coconut Surprise' carnation (Dianthus 'Coconut Surprise') is a perennial for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average soil of most types. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. The fragrant flowers open in spring and again in summer, and butterflies and bees visit them. The foliage stays evergreen, and the plant handles dry spells well.

Pairs well with Lavender, Early Sunrise largeflower tickseed, Deep Blue Clips tussock bellflower, and Blue fescue.
