Notes

'Cupido' Japanese pieris (Pieris japonica 'Cupido') is a shrub for cottage gardens, informal borders, patios, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and moist soil. Dark pink buds open to lightly fragrant white flowers in early to late spring, and bees visit them. New leaves emerge scarlet-burgundy and turn glossy green. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Duke blueberry, Aureola Japanese forest grass, and Western hemlock.
