Notes

'Japonicum' dog's tooth violet (Erythronium dens-canis 'Japonicum') is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun and average to moist soil of most types. It blooms in early to late spring, and bees visit the flowers. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Plant it where you can watch the spring bloom.

Pairs well with Snowdrop, Lenten rose, and Fringed bleeding heart.
