Notes

'Edward J. Gardner' lilac (Syringa vulgaris 'Edward J. Gardner') is a shrub for cottage gardens, specimens, hedges, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It blooms in early to late spring with fragrant flowers. Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Limelight hydrangea, Picture tulip, David garden phlox, and Western sword fern.
