Notes

'Ernest Markham' clematis (Clematis 'Ernest Markham') is a vine for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and specimen use. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. The large magenta flowers are flushed with red in the center of each petal and bloom from July to September on vines 8 to 12 feet high. George Jackman & Son introduced it in 1937. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Jackmanii clematis, American Pillar rose, David garden phlox, and Western sword fern.
