Notes

'Fire Chief' American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Fire Chief') is a shrub for hedges, privacy screens, foundation plantings, and specimen use. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It grows slowly into a dense, fragrant evergreen about 35 to 47 inches tall and wide, and birds visit it. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Plant it where you want year-round green.

Pairs well with Panicle hydrangea, Stonecrop, and Karl Foerster feather reed grass.
