Notes

'Fire Opal' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Fire Opal') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The deep red flowers have inner petals tipped in white and appear in early summer. Each stiff stem holds 3 to 4 blooms, so the plants rarely need staking. Walter Marx bred it.

Pairs well with Spotted dead nettle, Ostrich fern, Grape hyacinth, and Sedge.
