'Gordon Bentham' mugo pine (Pinus mugo 'Gordon Bentham') is a shrub for rock gardens, containers, and accents. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer tend to pass it by. This evergreen grows slowly to 3 to 6 inches tall and spreads 3 to 18 inches wide. It tolerates drought and salt, and birds visit it.
