Notes

'Houston' lagerstroemia (Lagerstroemia indica 'Houston') is a shrub for pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, and specimen plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Watermelon red flowers open from early to late summer and again in early autumn, and butterflies and bees visit them. Deer rarely make it their first choice. This dense shrub grows rapidly and tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Chaste tree, Clary sage, and Switchgrass.
