'Jiu Zi Jú' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Jiu Zi Jú') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The white flowers have purplish red flares that cover most of the center petals, so the center looks darker than the outer petals. Each fragrant bloom is 5½ to 7 inches across and faces outward. The plant grows about 60 inches tall.
Pairs well with Jackmanii clematis, Christmas fern, Black Parrot tulip, and Lily.
