Notes

'John Davis' aster (Symphyotrichum 'John Davis') is a perennial for meadows, rain gardens, pollinator gardens, and cut flower beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, clay soil. Purple flowers open in early to late autumn and draw butterflies, bees, and birds. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It grows 36 to 84 inches tall, so give it room at the back of the border.

Pairs well with Joe-pyeweed, Big bluestem, and False indigo.
