Notes
'Jonagored' apple (Malus domestica 'Jonagored') is a tree for the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It blooms from early to late spring, and bees visit the flowers. This apple is a sport of 'Jonagold', and Jos Morren bred it in 1985. It is not self-fertile, so plant a second apple nearby for pollination.
Pairs well with Flowering quince, Karl Rosenfield peony, and Garlic chives.
