Notes
'Kalei' apple (Malus domestica 'Kalei') is a tree for the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It blooms in early to late spring, and bees visit the flowers. Kalei came from Gala and was bred to resist scab far better than its parent. The Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry bred it in 2013.
Pairs well with High-bush blueberry, Magnus coneflower, Prairie dropseed, and Grape hyacinth.
