'Lady in Red' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Lady in Red') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, woodland gardens, and large containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade. Lacecap flowers open pink or blue on red stems and age to red. The foliage has a red tint and turns burgundy-red in fall, so it gives interest in three seasons.
Pairs well with Bluebell, Jacob’s ladder, Ocean spray, and Horsetail.
