Notes

'Meteor Shower' purple top (Verbena bonariensis 'Meteor Shower') is an annual for borders, containers, cut flowers, and pollinator gardens. It shrugs off cool spells and light frost, though a hard freeze will damage it. This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. Small violet-lilac flowers open on slender stems from summer into fall, and hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies visit them in numbers. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Unlike the species, it does not self-seed.

Pairs well with Magnus coneflower, Prairie dropseed, and Lemon Queen sunflower.
