Notes
'Monmar' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Monmar') is a shrub for hedges, privacy screens, shade gardens, and foundation plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It grows at a rapid rate and blooms from early to late summer, and it is also salt tolerant.
Pairs well with Blue Angel hosta, Lady fern, and Aureola Japanese forest grass.
