Notes

'Nicolas' Japanese forest grass (Hakonechloa macra 'Nicolas') is a grass for shade gardens, containers, borders, and woodland plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist soil of most types. It grows slowly into an arching mound and shows fall color. Deer tend to browse other plants first. Give it time to fill in.

Pairs well with Foam flower, Christmas fern, and Oakleaf hydrangea.
