Notes

'Ontario' apple (Malus domestica 'Ontario') is a tree for the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is grown for culinary uses, and the fruit is picked late in the season. Bees visit the spring blooms. Charles Arnold bred it in 1820, and you will need a second apple tree nearby for pollination because it is not self-fertile.

Pairs well with Eastern white pine, Grape hyacinth, and Burnet.
