Notes

Orpine (Hylotelephium telephium) is a perennial for borders, pollinator gardens, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It forms a tidy clump of green and purple foliage that stays 12 to 18 inches tall. Pink flowers open in summer and again in autumn, and they draw butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by.

Pairs well with Clustered bellflower, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and Limeglow creeping juniper.

Native range

Eastern Europe to Japan.
