Notes
'Poco Red' red-hot poker (Kniphofia 'Poco Red') is a perennial for borders, containers, cut flowers, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Red blooms appear in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn, and butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit them. It is not a favorite of rabbits, though hungry rabbits will eat almost anything. Salt tolerance makes it a good pick for coastal beds.
Pairs well with Russian sage, Silver feather grass, and Coneflower.
