Notes

'Tawny King' red-hot poker (Kniphofia 'Tawny King') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Its flower spikes appear in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn, and butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds visit the blooms. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. The leaves stay green through the year.

Pairs well with Hummingbird's mint, Fountain grass, and Purple Pillar rose of sharon.
