Notes
Portuguese squill (Scilla peruviana) is a bulb for borders, containers, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. A rosette of strap-like leaves gives rise to a dome of small, star-like, royal blue to purple-blue flowers. Despite its name, it does not come from Peru. In colder climates, grow it in a protected pot.
Pairs well with Society garlic, Wallflower, and Fountain grass.
Native range
W Mediterranean (Italy, N Africa, and Madeira).
