Notes

Portulaca (Portulaca grandiflora) is an annual for borders, containers, rock gardens, and xeriscape. Frost will kill it, so set it out only after the last frost in spring. This plant likes full sun and dry to wet soil of most types. It creeps along the ground, grows 4 to 8 inches tall, and spreads 12 to 18 inches wide. It tolerates drought and blooms from spring through autumn. It sits low on the menu for deer.

Pairs well with Creeping zinnia, Indian blanket, Red Wings moss phlox, and Red fescue.
