Notes

'Purpurea' clematis (Clematis recta 'Purpurea') is a vine for borders, cottage gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. The fragrant flowers draw butterflies, bees, and birds. It grows slowly to about 48 inches tall with an erect habit. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Cytherea peony, Indian grass, and Carlton daffodil.
